Training Programme

Structured training for the attainment of Specialist Registration in Emergency Medicine in Malta

The Training Programme for Emergency Medicine in Malta sets the standard for training in Emergency Medicine and on successful completion the trainee will be eligible for the conferment of the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Emergency Medicine. The training programme is divided into two components:

 

PART 1: Basic Specialist Training Basic Specialist Training is a minimum 2 year structured programme which will lead to the award of the Certificate of Completion in Basic Emergency Medicine Training (CCBEMTMalta). Doctors can apply for a Basic Specialist Training (BST) post if they are in possession of the Foundation Achievement of Competence Document (FACD) issued by the Malta Foundation School, or if they have an equivalent qualification. Applicants are selected during an interview process according to criteria set by the Public Service Commission of Malta.

 

PART 2: Higher Specialist Training Trainees who are in possession of CCBEMT-Malta will be eligible for Higher Specialist Training. This is a minimum 4 year structured training programme which will lead to the Certificate of Completion of Specialty Training (CCST) in Emergency Medicine in Malta. This Certificate will be recognised by the Specialist Accreditation Committee (SAC) of Malta for inclusion in the Medical and Dental Specialist Register of Malta.
